泰國衛生部證實目前已確診一例「中東呼吸症候群」（MERS），患者是1名75歲的阿曼人，目前正在1家醫院隔離治療中。
泰國衛生部指出，這名來自中東阿曼的病患，他入境泰國後與59人有密切接觸，為了防止更多人感染，目前這名患者被隔離在暖武里地區的醫院特別病房中，接受治療。
泰國衛生部表示，這名阿曼人與家人在6月15日入境泰國後出現發燒等症狀後就醫，醫院和衛生機構有所警覺，採取必要隔離措施，並經過兩間實驗室的確認這名患者感染MERS。衛生當局對他同班飛機的乘客和搭乘計程車的司機以及家人等密切接觸者，採取監控，防止疫情擴大。
由於泰國醫療技術水準在東南亞國家中算不差，收費也算合理，加上歐美國家基於反恐因素，對中東人士入境管控變嚴格，因此中東地區的有錢人或富豪捨棄歐美國家，改到泰國醫療。
衛生官員早就警告，要注意此一管道傳染MERS。
